Self Defense, Combatives and Mixed Martial Arts At the Academy of Combat Application Techniques
Our military combatives program is a hybrid based off from WWII Combatives, the Peterson SCARS progam, The Marine Corps LINE Combat System, US Army Combatives Program, Conventional Martial arts and Submission Grappling. The program was developed out of need and taylored specifically for a Special Forces Alpha Detachment to use in a myriad of Operational Environments from Low Prowfile to Full Kit. The program was developed to aid Special Forces Operators in Close Quarters Combat or Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape scenarios. The objective is to give the operator tools to get themselve's to a position of tactical advantage, to escape the situation and survive.
This program was developed by determining the worst case needs of a Special Operations Force Operator, understanding the typical SF soldier, the vast array of missions and then determining the ways that one could both inflict serious vital damage and inflict it upon another. Then several techniques from other programs were evaluated based on their simplicity and effectiveness. Surgeons, Trauma Response personnel, and Special Forces Medics were then consulted to validate the certainty that the techniques chosen for the program to be taught to A- Team members would in fact have an affect on the intended target of mechanical failure or death every time that they are executed.
Biomechanics of the human anatomy and physiology were taken into strict consideration so that every counter would have several attacks to vital areas built into it. Commonality of training was key and tied into the program, so that the operator fights like they shoot and move naturally. The following factors were taken into consideration when developing this program.
- all techniques must not be vision dominant; techniques may be executed effectively in low-light conditions, or other impaired visibility conditions
- Extreme mental and physical fatigue (SERE) state
- Usable by the Operator while wearing full Kit
- Proper execution of the techniques must cause Mechanical Failure or Death to the target
- Techniques do not rely on physical size or conditioning to be successful
- Simple to learn and apply regardless of age, sex or experience
- Commonality of training principle
We offer training in Military knife and close quarters combat to ages 16 and up at the instructors discretion. All trainees will be trained in the Combat Application Techniques System which is comprised of:

The Combat Application Techniques System has a 3 belt rank structure with two instructor levels. The rank System is as follows:
Tan Belt - Level 1
Trainee, Basic Knife and Hand to Hand Combat
Green Belt - Level 2
Trainee Trapping zone, Standing grappling Close Quarters combat and Blunt Force Trauma Weapons Training
Black Belt - Level 3
Trainee, Weapon Disarms, Sentry Takedowns, Ground Fighting
Uniform:
BDU type fatigues and tactical boots, or whatever you would normally wear; although it is also strongly recommended that you have wrestling shoes or other soft soled footwear that is mat friendly.

These programs require official Identification presentation and are taught as seminars. Women's Awareness

This program is unique because it is modular and although the full course is two 8 hour sessions it can be broken down into smaller segments. It is also unique in that like the Defensive Tactics courses it is a combined lecture and practical application course. Unlike many "Women's Self Defense" clinics that ressemble more of an aerobic kickboxing class than a real self protection course; this training course covers the principles of security and awareness as well as gritty and brutal reality based techniques and scenario driven exercises.

Unlike so many other programs in the area that offer "Jujitsu" packaged as MMA, our program is true Mixed Martial Arts.
